SUMMARY:47th Putah Creek Christmas Bird Count
DESCRIPTION:Audubon’s Christmas Bird Count began as an alternative to the Christmas “Side Hunt” and has since become a fine tradition with tens of thousands of volunteers throughout the Americas braving the elements to take part in the effort. This long-term dataset has proven invaluable\, providing a picture of how the continent’s bird populations have changed in time and space over the past century. Yolo Audubon Society’s count circle is centered on Putah Creek and was initiated in 1971. Nearly 250 varieties of birds have been counted so far. Recent findings include Ring-necked Duck\, Lesser Scaup\, Common Loon\, Red-necked Grebe\, Rough-legged Hawk\, Greater Roadrunner\, Long- and Short-eared Owl\, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker\, Winter Wren\, and Mountain Bluebird. Come join us\, you never know what will turn up!
