SUMMARY:Lake Solano County Park / Putah Creek
DESCRIPTION:On this trip we will visit Lake Solano County Park where Putah Creek runs between Yolo and Solano Counties.  We will be looking for resident species as well as those that spend the winter in the area.  The oak woodland\, riparian habitat and creek can result in bird sightings that include Osprey\, Phainopepla\, Wood Duck and hopefully several species of woodpeckers. There could be some surprises like Pileated Woodpecker\, Red-breasted Sapsucker and Bald Eagle. \nMeet at 7:30 AM at the parking lot at Big 5 in the Marketplace Shopping Center\, in Davis\, 1301 W. Covell Blvd. All levels of birders are welcome.  Trip will conclude early afternoon. \nBring water\, binoculars and a spotting scope if you have one.  We will not be stopping for a designated lunch break.  There is some walking on uneven terrain but for the most part it is flat.  A $6.00/car fee will be needed for parking at the picnic grounds. Rain and strong wind cancels trip. \nTrip leader is Sharon Kirkpatrick. For more info\, contact her at (530) 220-3735 (cell) or sckirkpa@gmail.com. \nYolo Audubon Society field trips are free and open to the public. Some trips may be limited by number of participants\, if stated in the description. Car-pooling is encouraged\, but all rides are private arrangements between driver and riders. Heavy rain or high winds may cancel any trip.

SUMMARY:Sacramento and Colusa National Wildlife Refuges
DESCRIPTION:We will visit the Sacramento NWR north of Colusa and then the Colusa NWR. Both have driving tours so we will spend most of the time in cars. SNWR has a short walking tour on level ground as well as a very nice visitor center with restrooms. Colusa has a large\, accessible observation deck. These two refuges host thousands of wintering waterfowl\, as well as resident and migrant songbirds\, owls and raptors. Easy viewing for birders. Never disappointing! The rare Falcated Duck has been seen at Colusa in the past. \nBring lunch\, snacks\, water\, layers of clothing\, binoculars and a spotting scope if you have one. Rain cancels trip. \nMeet to carpool at 7:30 a.m. at the parking lot at Big 5 in the Marketplace Shopping Center in Davis\, 1301 W. Covell Blvd. Please plan to contribute to $6 per-car fee at the Sacramento refuge. \nMore info: Betty Berteaux\, (530) 756-1686\, birdtrax@dcn.org \nYolo Audubon Society field trips are free and open to the public.
