SUMMARY:The Okavango: Africa’s Inland Delta
DESCRIPTION:A UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa\, Botswana’s Okavango Delta is a landscape of exceptional and rare beauty. Not unlike California’s historic Central Valley\, the Okavango is a watery mosaic of islands and meandering channels that sustain an ecosystem of abundant habitat and species diversity. A biodiversity hotspot\, the Okavango harbors 24 species of globally-threatened birds and sustains robust populations of some of the world’s most endangered large mammals. Join UC Davis ecologist Dr. Melanie Truan as she celebrates the beauty and biodiversity of this region and discusses some of the ways that people are working to better manage its resources. 7:30 pm\, Davis Senior Center Valente Room\, 646 A Street\, Davis\, CA. Come early for cookies and conversation and to peruse the large collection of used books in ornithology\, ecology\, and natural history that will be available for purchase before and after the program.
