It’s hard to believe, but we’ve reached the end of the Yolo Audubon 2020-2021 season. This is our last newsletter until September. Thank you for sticking with us through these unsettled times. We’ve had record attendance at our Zoom monthly meetings and are in the process of trying to decide what to do starting in the fall. We may try some sort of a hybrid of in-person meetings with the program taped and available on our YouTube channel. Let us know what you think.
Another positive outcome of the stay-at-home situation is that we started our “Out with a Birder” series, and we plan to continue that. The phenology surveys have been very productive this spring, and participants were thrilled to get good views of the difficult-to-see Mountain Quail.
Mike Lynes, the Audubon CA policy director, invites all Audubon members to join in Virtual Advocacy Day on Thursday, June 10th. According to Lynes, “This year, we’ll work to advance essential environmental protections such as the Human Right to Nature (AB 30), Conservation Ranching (SB 322) and other climate resistance measures. These advocacy efforts will support bird species such as California Quails, Snowy Plovers, Tricolored Blackbirds, Allen’s Hummingbirds, and the communities we share with them.” It’s a great chance to talk directly with your state legislators from the comfort of your home! Register here.
We are sorry to lose two of our Yolo Audubon Board Members, Erna Tarara and Allan Hollander. Allan has served on the board for 15 years! Many thanks to both. The rest of the current board members are returning, and we have two new nominees on the slate, Diane Colborn and JoAnne Fillatti. Since we won’t be having an in-person meeting to vote on the slate, the board will vote on your behalf at the May board meeting.
Have a wonderful summer!
Ann Brice, President, YAS
