From the President: November 2019

Wintering waterfowl are arriving, which is a great excuse to talk about our annual drawing at the meeting on December 4th.

Across the Sky – Snow Geese; Robert Bateman print

Our grand prize this year features a lovely winter wetlands scene donated by Lorna Belen. The framed and signed Robert Bateman print is entitled “Across the Sky—Snow Geese” and is valued at $1,000. We have total of ten items in the drawing, including a stunning Sandhill Crane framed photograph taken by Beth Savidge, a hand-woven shawl from Alison Kent, a Susan Shelton ceramic bowl, a birding trip with Michael Perrone, as well as gift certificates and gift baskets. You should be receiving your drawing tickets in the mail this week.

The December 4th meeting is also our annual preparatory evening for the Christmas Bird Count (CBC), which will take place on Sunday, December 15th. Steve Hampton will explain the various count areas and encourage you to sign up for one. He’ll also be giving great bird I.D. tips and discussing species population trends. The CBC page on our website has a map of the count circle and contact information for the area leaders.

We have so much to share on December 4th that we’re starting the meeting at 7:00pm (instead of the usual 7:30pm). Don’t miss out!

In other good news—We’ve raised sufficient funds for Terry Colborn’s memorial bench in Slide Hill Park. Thank you to all his friends who donated. We’ll let you know when it’s installed.

Hope to see you out birding.

Ann Brice, President
