Fall Bird News in Our
Community and Beyond

The new California Breeding Bird Atlas project was officially launched as of October 21st, with data collection to begin in January. Yolo Bird Alliance is proud to be a founding partner along with about two dozen other Audubon chapters and bird conservation organizations. This will be an ambitious multi-year project and there will be many opportunities for Yolo County birders to be involved through surveys and other work. Learn more about breeding bird atlases in Michael Perrone’s Conservation Corner article below and at www.californiabirdatlas.org.

Our Yolo County Library birding kits have all been catalogued and are now available for check out and reservations at the different library branches. This kind thank you to YBA was posted on the Yolo County Library’s Facebook page: “Thank you to the Yolo Bird Alliance for the egg-cellent donation of 7 brand new, family friendly bird watching kits to the Davis Library. These bird-i-ful kits include 2 pairs of binoculars, a birds of Yolo checklist, a birding bingo game, various reading materials, and a California State Library Parks Pass.” The State Parks Pass was added to the kits by the library.
Mark your calendars! Bart Wickel, our Christmas Bird Count compiler, has just announced the details of the 55th count. Please go to our website, Facebook, or Instagram page for all the latest information and plan to join us on December 21st for the count and post-count potluck as well as on December 10th at our monthly meeting for the pre-count I.D. workshop.
Remember that the 29th annual Central Valley Birding Symposium takes place November 20th-23rd in Stockton. The three days are filled with amazing speakers, field trips and workshops. Yolo Bird Alliance is one of the sponsors, and our board member Lynette Williams Duman will lead the student research symposium at the event. More info and registration here.
We recently sent out our annual Yolo Bird Alliance membership letter, and we want to thank everyone who has responded. The majority of our newsletter readers aren’t members yet, and we hope they’ll consider joining the flock! Besides just asking for financial support in our letter, we try to update our members and friends on what’s happened in the past year and what our upcoming plans are. There’s definitely still time to donate and become a member, just click here!
