Yolo Notable Sightings: November 2018

The star of November was a young Northern Shrike, found Nov 15 along Rd 25 near the Conaway Stock Pond (DM). The bird moved to Woodland Wastewater Treatment Plant and East Regional Pond (at Farmer’s Central Rd) and was enjoyed by many thru Thanksgiving.

A Pacific Loon, photographed Nov 7 in the Sacramento River near the I Street Bridge (DK), was seen in both Sacramento and Yolo counties and represents Yolo’s fourth record.

Noteworthy late records included a Hammond’s Flycatcher at Fishing Access 1 (Putah Creek) on Nov 10 (KS) and a Cassin’s Vireo in north Davis thru most of the month (CD). More expected was an adult Glaucous Gull on Nov 12 at Davis Wastewater Treatment Plant (JR) and two Pacific Wrens at Willowbank Ditch on Nov 25 (RF).

Thanks to the following for their reports: Chris Dunford (CD), Rob Furrow (RF), Dan Kopp (DK), Dan Murphy (DM), Jason Riggio (JR), Kirk Swenson (KS).
