Adjacent to the Napa River is a restored shoreline walking trail; where tidal fluctuations can be observed. First we’ll walk along a large tidal lagoon looking for resting birds. After a short level walk the rising tide will bring foraging birds as they come closer to us.
During this time of year fall migration is underway; we can be on the lookout for surprises along with the expected sandpipers, godwits, willets and ducks; some still in premolt into basic plumage. Mute Swans are a bonus to expect since they have been a breeding species along the river for more than 20 years.
All along the walkway we’ll be enjoying the open vistas looking west toward the wetlands and over Napa River.
Plan to meet at 7:30 am at Marketplace Shopping Center, near Big 5 Sporting Goods, at W. Covell & Highway 113 in Davis. Bring binoculars, scopes and snacks/lunch to bring along on this morning walk. After returning to cars the group will have a lunch in the picnic area before returning to Davis.
