Join Yolo Audubon on a field trip to view hawk migration in action. Now is the time that several species of hawks, including the Red-tailed Hawk, Cooper’s Hawk, Sharp-shinned Hawk, and perhaps Broad-winged Hawk make their way to southern regions. We will also join the Golden Gate Raptor Observatory’s (GGRO’s) “Hawk Talk” at noon. A GGRO volunteer speaks about hawk migration and identification, and the work of the GGRO. If we are lucky, a banding volunteer will bring up a newly-banded hawk, talk about the banding program, and release the hawk in front of the crowd.
This trip will involve a short but somewhat steep climb, on a level surface, to reach the top of Hawk Hill.
Participants should plan to meet at the Marketplace Shopping Center, near Big 5 Sporting Goods in Davis. (West Covell & Highway 113; map below) at 7:00am for the sign-in process. The early start should help us obtain close parking. Expect to return to Davis between 5:00-6:00pm. Participants are free to discuss and arrange ridesharing among themselves.
If you plan to meet the group at the location, follow directions to Hawk Hill on Conzelman Rd, Sausalito, CA. After parking, look for the big banner just west of the main Hawk watching platform on the very top of Hawk Hill.
Bring binoculars, spotting scope if you have one, snacks, lunch and beverages. If you plan on driving, please RSVP to the trip leader Ken Ealy (530-219-1217 or email)
This public outing is free to all participants.
